Eyehategod - Southern Discomfort

I have been playing sludge songs on bass all day. My fingers are out of practice so the tips feel like they’re about to burst. It has been a good day.

Time

While you’re realising that you forgot to change the clocks last night, bear these bits of weirdness in mind.

  • Calcutta time was set at 5 hours, 30 minutes, and 21 seconds in advance of GMT.
  • The other timezone in British India was Bombay time, set at 4 hours and 51 minutes ahead of Greenwich Mean Time.
  • Until 1916, Ireland ran on Dublin Mean Time, GMT minus 25 minutes.

On the plus side...

If I die tonight, at least I can go knowing that I headbanged my way around my bedroom while playing bass, dressed as Salvador Dali.

Bongripper - Hate Ashbury Part IV

Heavy as a lead elephant but without harsh vocals- perfect for those of you who are not manly/womanly enough to stomach screaming music.

Recent inspiration Bookmarks on Delicious → delicious.com

This is perhaps the most depressing page on Delicious. If only the majority of these people were actually inspired by any of this. “inspiration” weeps, hidden in the shadow of the incredible abuse the “design” tag is subject to.

It almost seems like some kind of desperate attempt at self-conviction, saying that “inspiration” is a synonym for something more productive, rather than one for “good” with vague hints of “oh god I’ve wasted the whole morning looking at some douche’s Top 10 Photoshop Gradients”.

nthposition: The globalisation of addiction → nthposition.com

A look at addiction that starts off by citing this rather fascinating study:

A colony of rats, who are naturally gregarious, were allowed to roam together in a large vivarium enriched with wheels, balls and other playthings, on a deep bed of aromatic cedar shavings and with plenty of space for breeding and private interactions. Pleasant woodland vistas were even painted on the surrounding walls. In this situation, the rats’ responses to drugs such as opiates were transformed. They no longer showed interest in pressing levers for rewards of morphine: even if forcibly addicted, they would suffer withdrawals rather than maintaining their dependence. Even a sugar solution could not tempt them to the morphine water (though they would choose this if naloxone was added to block the opiate effects).

Not-flu

Recovering and leaking. My nose is seeing more throughput than the Rolling Stones touring Bolivia.
